Getting to Milford

Milford Township is a little gem, nestled not far from the large suburbs on the North Shore. This small but lively town has a shopping experience worthwhile your trip from anywhere across Auckland.

Parking in Milford:

The best thing about driving to Milford is that the when you get here, the parking is FREE! Milford has over 1200 carparks for you to choose from, all with a range of time limits to suit your needs.

Clearways: Please be away of the morning clearways within Milford, parking along parts of Milford’s main road, Kitchener between 6-30am and 9am will result in your car being towed.

For a lengthy visit of over 2 hours we recommend parking down Frater Ave, Fenwick Ave, or down Dodson Ave, past the 30 minute time zones. When parking for an extended period please be extra wary of any time zones that may apply to your park, we’d hate for you to get a ticket!

For a medium length visit of between 60- 120 minutes we recommend parking

For a quick visit less than 30 minutes, there are numerous car parks along the main street and nearby on the side streets that have 30 minute time limits.

As well parking on the street, there is also extra parking available for those customers of the mall & supermarket. These parks can be accessed off either Milford Road or Kitchener Road; these parks also have a time limit of 120 minutes, they are for supermarket and mall customers only.

Driving to Milford:

From the North: Milford is located in centre of the North Shore and is easily accessed from the Northern motorway as well as from northern suburbs along the East Coast Road. From Browns Bay, Milford is only 15 minutes away via East Coast Road. From Silverdale via the Northern Motorway, Milford is only a short 20 minute drive away. Try not to leave for Milford from north too early in the morning however or you may end up with a first-hand experience of Auckland’s highly detested traffic.

From West: Driving to Milford from Auckland’s western suburbs is faster than you may think. From Massey, Milford is only a 20 minute drive along the new State highway 18. From Henderson; Milford is only a 25 minute drive along the same route. Time well spent to reach our beautiful village.

From Central Auckland: From the city Milford only takes 15 minutes to reach by car. Simply cross the harbour bridge and take the Northcote Road exit, right at the fork and follow the signs to Milford. Our village well satisfy both your shopping needs as well as provide a relaxed atmosphere often hard to find in big cities such as our own.

By Bus:

Buses are the cheap, efficient and environmentally friendly way to travel to Milford.

A great way to find the nearest bus route to Milford is to use either the Auckland Transport App for your phone or the Journey Planner on their website.

Simply type in your location, Milford as your destination and Auckland Transport will show you the available transport options. To download the app simply search for Auckland Transport in your app store.


Milford is now proud to be bicycle friendly with numerous bicycle stands at seven different locations around the main street for you to secure your bike to. You’ll find them placed conveniently outside the post office, supermarket and along the main street.

Although there are not designated bicycle lanes in Milford, the roads are safe for experienced road cyclists.


A great way to get to know the North Shore coastlines is to take a walk along our fabulous Te Araroa beach side walking track which runs from Torbay right down through Milford, finishing in Torbay.

From Takapuna you can walk right along the coast line to Milford, taking in the breath taking views of Rangitoto Island on your way to shop at some of the best and most unique boutique stores on the North Shore.

Please take caution when using this track as some parts can only be accessed at low tides, the track can also be slippery and dangerous in ill weather. The walkway crosses some private property so please be respectful when using these areas, without the good will of property owners we would not be able to access this walkway.
